Why We Love It

1. Flexibility. This home has two different addresses and can be used in a variety of ways. It can be a single family home with a first floor master, an attached in-law suite, a home office with public entrance, or it could become a home with an attached income producing apartment.

2. Updates. They're everywhere. This one-of-a-kind, century old home has been thoroughly updated and remodeled. There are upgrades throughout the property and it has even been converted to a smart home with remote controlled monitoring! The blog below will cover most of them but a few highlights are: bathroom, siding, metal roof, and teak flooring. The list goes on...

3. Perfect Backyard. In my opinion this is a perfect backyard. It features a large in ground pool and a great patio area with extra large table. The custom built table has a concrete top set upon a tree stump... so it stays with property (you might notice a matching table inside). Flowers, shrubs, and trees surround this area a creating a soft backdrop to all of the hardscape. The home has two separate sunrooms and a 2nd floor balcony overlooking this fenced in retreat! The backyard is also home to the huge garage that can hold your cars and serve as storage. It is divided into 2 sections and there is an expanse of 12 feet of shelving storage across the back of 2nd bay. With a little work, the first section could even be converted into a great pool house. The garage is over 1300 square feet and has a second story!

What You Need To Know

Note: This description is longer than most... so be sure to scroll down to view all the photos when you're done.

This is a very unique home located in Mt. Sterling OH, just 19 miles south of Grove City and 15 miles north of Washington Court House. The home actually has two addresses, 224 & 228 W. Main Street.

The original home was built in 1918 and a mother-in-law home was added to the same lot in 1992. The total space for the two homes is just over 5,000 SF with 5 possible bedrooms and 3 ½ baths.

The garage is as special as the home; 3+ car (current owner is parking his 22' truck with room to spare!) with an unfinished second floor for storage.

The home has been well maintained, with many custom items that will stay with the home. Let's break it down a little more...

224 West Main

This is a three story home with 3 bedrooms and 1½ bath.

First Floor: As you step into the home from the beautiful slate porch, you immediately notice the character of 100 year old craftsmanship; wide trim, original hardwood floors, and an amazing fireplace. The foyer is spacious and provides access to the living room, kitchen and the stairway to 2nd floor.

The first thing that caught me eye in the living room was the fireplace with its custom mantel, stained glass, and slate inset. The coffee table is another custom feature that can stay with the home (it matches the exterior table). This could be the room where you sit and watch TV or the room where you sit to escape from all electronic devices.

Beautiful pocket doors transition you into the dining room. The room is large and has the same custom blinds as living room. This currently a great formal space but if you don't have a need for formal dining, this would be wonderful family room. It has French doors with a view of the pool, access to the kitchen, and is certainly large enough for your comfy couch.

The adjacent kitchen isn't the largest space (there is another on next door) but it has oak cabinets that go to the ceiling which provides lots of extra storage. The included stainless steel appliances remain in the home.

Beyond the kitchen is a mud room/pool room and the half bath. You have storage for shoes, towels, and pool gear making the transition from the pool to the home easy and dry. You'll love not having guests trek through the house in a wet bath suit to visit the bathroom.

The back sunroom overlooks the pool and is the perfect place to have your morning coffee, read a book, or keep an eye on everyone in the pool.

Second Floor: This level features 3 bedrooms, an updated full bathroom, new teak flooring, and a balcony.

The bedrooms all have closets that are unusually large for homes of this era. One bedroom even has a beautiful wall of custom built cabinetry with the counter top being made of the same teak wood as the floors.

This amazing bathroom has a lot of custom upgrades. There is a walk-in shower with heated floors and a large soaking tub. The sink was custom built and designed with more of the matching teak and tile.

The center hall leads to the second floor balcony. The way it overlooks the backyard, this would be chosen spot for reading the morning paper or a quiet nightcap.

Third Floor: The finished attic space runs the depth of the home and is semi-divided into two rooms. There is solid oak trim, custom stained glass windows, ceiling fans, and skylights. Options abound for this room; a large master bedroom, a 3rd floor rec room, or an office space as the current owners use it.

Basement: This is the common link and transition between the two homes.

As you come down the stairs that were custom made from a single cherry tree, you enter a large laundry room. The space includes cabinets, a utility sink, and room for your washer and dryer.

The mechanical room is to the side where the utilities have been well cared for. The electric and plumbing have been updated. There is a Lennox Pulse furnace and the hot water tank replaced in 2012. There is radiant heat in the finished flooring of the basement.

The other side of the basement has a large rec room with ceramic flooring and radiant heat. Bring your workout equipment, craft tables, or furniture. This space is ready fro your direction.

Another possible bedroom sits to the side of the rec area and it has its own full bath as well.

228 West Main

This is the one story in-law suite thaw was built in 1992. It has its own entrance and an enclosed front porch.

You definitely see a difference in the style of this space. The wood clad, vaulted ceiling has multiple skylights that shine over the great room and kitchen. The living space has a gas fireplace, Amish built cabinetry, and is wired for sound.

The kitchen is open to the great room. It features under cabinet lighting and a bar top that drops down when not in use. The stainless steel appliances were just replaced 5 years ago and this is the main kitchen of the current owners.

The vaulted ceilings continue in the bedroom that has more Amish built cabinetry. There is a connected en suite that has been updated.

From the bedroom, you have access to another sunroom. This one overlooks the patio with a view of the pool area.

The backyard ties the two homes together. The area is fully fenced and, in my opinion, this is a perfect backyard. It features a large in ground pool, great patio area with a custom 6 ft. table, and plenty of mature landscaping to admire.

The backyard also leads to the 3+ car garage that is over 1300 SF. You can fit multiple vehicles and work equipment with room to spare and space leftover for a woodshop.

The garage is 2 stories tall, with second story unfinished for storage. No matter if you're a contractor or just a typical pack rat... this garage will be a dream come true.
